United Cycle Grassroots Cycling ClubUnited In Sport - United In Spirit
July 22 Cyclo Cross-Venue updateOK we are going to move the race venue to the Strathcona Science Park. The park and trails at the Velodrome are just to busy and conflicts with trail users and people using the soccer fields will develop and with cycling in the area under scrutiny due to the building of the new Velodrome we need to keep our presence low key at this point. Thanks to Cory, Trevor, Gary and Jay for helping to check out the area and their input regarding a new venue. We will be meeting at the Science Park on Friday 8 Aug at 7 PM to set up the course. The following Tue. a test run for timing and course monitoring with the race series starting on the 19 Aug. Assistance with the course and races will be needed in order to run a successful series. Proposed race nights(6) are Tuesdays from the 19 Aug to 30 Sept. Thanks Stew July 15 Devon Dust Up Perfect day for a MTB race on a climb heavy course along Devon's River Valley. Great to see Roger back and finishing third in the sport men. It looks like Marc with a first place finish and Adrien in fourth will move up to sport. Great effort this year guys. Gary and Stew rounded out the novice men both finishing the tough course. Tim with this years leader plate finished first in the Elite men with a strong ride and great climbs. Peter and Brenton finished fifth and sixth in the expert men. In the single speed Matt had the second best time but was DQ due to a repair out of the technical area. Matt reported the repair to the commissaries on his last lap as he should have and was allowed to finish. Great racing ability and sortsmanship shown by Matt who will be a force in the upcoming cycle cross season. July 07 Canada Cup Canmore Check the following in Pedal Magazine. Great write up on Tim's Canada Cup victory in Canmore. Copy URL and paste for the web sites for Pedal Magazine and Mical's Blog. http://www.pedalmag.com/index.php?module=Section&action=viewdetail&item_id=13813 We are so fortunate to have Tim under our colors as a racer and even more so for his technical help so freely available to our race team. Thanks Tim On the Alberta front in the woman's category Mical Dyck won the elite woman's race and should be a contender for Canada's national team by virtue of her win's alone and the effort she has put into racing. See her blog. http://www.micaldyck.blogspot.com/ July 03 Canada Crit and team news Once again I was impressed by our elite riders in the Crit. Tim's race strategy is second to none in this province. It was great to see Brys out shaking off the cobwebs and rebuilding his cycling talents after successfully completing his training in the Edmonton Police Service. Their gain is our loss but he will be back for Cycle cross. Matthew Krhan established himself as a racer winning second in the Cat 5. Adrian, James and Marc filled out the Cat 5 slate rideing well. Cat 4 had an awsome finish with Corry finnishing third and Peter finishing fourth in a great sprint that could have see either one finnish higher. Photo Finish great effort guys. Cat 1,2,3 was exciting and Tim's blog has the race details. Strong competiion from Taylor and Mike. Thanks for representing us guys. In the Ladies and Master C you never know. Dispite being down three laps I managed to Get 4 points. My first ever points in any race Road, MTB or Cycle Cross. If there had been a Master D catagory I would have cleaned up. I read Marc Rumsey's article in the ABA Spinner magazine and total agree that we race for the health, comraderie and fun in the sport. I would like to see more Master riders in C,D, and E and encouage active life styles as well as entertainment for spectators.
