A small number of volunteers (only 8 each day) along with the County of Strathcona accomplished a lot on the weekend of April 21-22. There is a bit of weed-wacking and raking left to do, but the three kilometers of new singletrack is dry and hardening up with use and exposure to the warmer weather. The whole loop is 7.5 km, 55% singletrack, with about 200 m of total climbing. Below are maps, the profile, and a couple of photos taken April 23. There are several places where it is easy to cut the course and miss some of it, so take the map with you. So get out with your friends, and RIDE! Photos, maps, and elevation profile are located in the photos section. Thanks Dave and Eliot. Houfalize World Cup Results

April 10 Natural Areas UpdatesProposed Natural Areas Conservation Plan The Office of Natural Areas will hold an open house on May 7 to provide community members with an opportunity to review the latest draft of the City's proposed Natural Areas Conservation Plan, Natural Connections. The open house, which will include scheduled presentations, will be held from noon - 9:00 pm at the Shaw Conference Centre, Salons 3 & 4. The presentations are scheduled for noon, 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm, and will not last longer than an hour each. Coffee, juice and cookies will be provided. We will post both the full Conservation Plan and a workbook/survey through which people can provide feedback on the Plan on the Office's website one week prior to the workshop (April 30). Our website address is www.edmonton.ca/naturalareas, and the workbook/survey will be available until May 15th. We will also have hardcopies of the workbook & survey at the workshop for those who wish to provide written comment at that time, but would ask that those with access to a computer please complete it online in order to facilitate the processing of this feedback. Please spread the word about this event, and feel free to contact the Office with any further questions. Angela Hobson April 03 2007 SeasonAbout the Club The Cycling Club was founded in 2002 and has evolved in the last 4 years from a small group of friends riding and racing to a 120 member club that is a leader within the community and provincial cycling scene.Today the club represents all disciplines of cycling including touring, commuting, free riding and racing. Friday's time trial featured a 20 min single lap of the xc course used only for rankings in the overall stage race for the weekend. Saturday March 30, Short Track
The second event of the weekend featured " <2 min laps w/ a long uphill paved straight away with the rest of the course being essentially a dust pit full of golf and baseball sized rocks scattered throughout. Let’s put it this way…it was freakin’ fast" according to Mike Sarnecki. Roddi Lega was the only one of the Edmonton riders to try his hand at this intense event. Of course Roddi was blessed with a back row start position. "On this course with all the rocks it was pretty tricky to get by guys, but Roddi did awesome as he moved from a 65th starting position to at least the top half of the group (just getting pulled in the 2nd last lap). With an improved starting position next time he could definitely be top ten." Roddi's impressive ride is a strong announcement, that he is indeed back on track. Congratulations Roddi, by the way, the new kit looks great on you. www.cyclingnews.com/mtbphotos.php?id=/photos/2007/mar07/NORBA_1_07/NORBA_1_073/JD_phxorcrit07015
