Pedalhead Road Works will host the final stop in the Alberta calendar this year with the 2008 Alberta Cyclo-Cross Championships. The race will take place on November 2nd at Gold Bar Park, a venue that has hosted many Alberta Cross races and provides numerous vantage points for spectators. With weather looking good for this weekend so come out and enjoy this great event.

Ridley Bicycles and Giant Bicycles have been great supporter's of Cross in Alberta and have both stepped up to offer Cross Frames as draw prizes. We have a great offering of prizes from: Giro, Vittoria, Adidas, BBB, Ric's Grill and Dacapo. You must be there to win so come race and hang out for some great action! After party is at Dacapo where Antonio will be serving up some BBQ Sausage fresh off the grill which can be washed down with one of many selections of Belgian beer.

Red Deer as usual had the strange weather element to it. In past years it has been wet and cold,snowy and cold and this year windy(gusts to 90 KMs) and cold. The day started off sunny but crisp and as the racing started at 11 AM the wind started and blew though the day. Great Day for Tim winning the Elite men Ryan fourth and Cory finishing sixth in Expert. Roger and Trevor challenged another rider in a finishing sprint with Roger prevailing. Marc,Clayton, Kevin and Stew rounded out the United Cycle team in a wind blown affair.

After 5 months of working with the race team and grass roots programs I would like to offer the following observations to help make next year run more efficiently.
1. A designated Race Team manager to coordinated with ABA,United cycle events manager and team members. Wednesday night would be race team night with the activities determined by the season. Organize the race team website.
2. A designated Grass Roots manager to run the ride programs and coordinated with our affiliate clubs. Organize and co-ordinate the Ride programs with United Cycle web site. This is my responsibility at this point and I will take on the Race team if no one else can help.
3. Improve communications regarding rides and cancellations through phone and website.
The 2009 program is looking like Mondays with the flight crew. Tuesdays a ladies ride with our affiliate club "The Sirens". Tuesdays are also traditionally Road,  MTB, or Cyclocross race nights organized by individual clubs. Wednesday is race team night. Thursday is the MTB casual ride. I also would like to see Road rides organized for the weekends. This would be integrated with Road and Triathlon training.
Please feel free to contact me with your ideas and how you might help with our programs. Emphasis on all programs is to participate and enjoy the riding. We want to encourage people to join our race and ride events.

  A unique and successful night race was held in Calgary this weekend. Tim prevailed and won both the night and day races in the elite category. Matt's move to expert proved to be successful as he won the day race and held on for the night event in spit of an ongoing chain problem. Peter,Ryan,Marc,Trevor,Adrien and Stew rounded out the United Cycle Team. See ABA for results
